The Family Learning Program is for adult learners with babies and children under five years old. The program provides child care for children of Adult Learners, holds parent-child activities, hosts field trips, and works with parents as they teach their children.

  • Adult Learning: Parents work on increasing their literacy skills or working toward passing the GED test.
  • Child Care: The children learn and play in our on-site nursery while adult learners take classes and meet with tutors; children also receive a healthy snack and lunch.
  • Family Learning Class: Parents get to know other parents; discuss ideas and concerns about being a parent; learn new ways to help your children learn and grow; receive free books and other materials for the family.
  • Parent-Child Time: Children and their parents participate in one-to-one and group parent-child activities every morning and afternoon that encourage the connection between nurturing and learning.
  • Field Trips and Library Visits: Parents and their children have fun and learn at museums, zoos, beaches, and other interesting places. They also learn to use the library for lifelong education

Classes (both adult and family learning) are Monday through Thursday from 9 am until 1:15 pm.

Orientation is every Monday (except holidays) at 1pm. After the orientation prospective students must schedule an appointment to take a math test. Prospective students will then schedule a date for a reading test and interview.

If you want to bring your child to the nursery during your testing and intake days please come a few minutes early so you can get the child settled in the nursery before you start your tests.

Volunteers are encouraged to come to the nursery as special readers. The children love it and it will make you feel good too! Reading times are Monday through Thursday at 12:00 noon.
