The Youth Tutoring Program offers after-school tutoring to Chicago Public School students, ages 6-18 years who are failing or at risk of failing in math and reading. Students work with committed volunteers on math, reading, writing, and other academic subjects. The program both individual tutoring and group tutoring with an emphasis on long-term one-on-one tutoring. Often, a child works with a single tutor for one or more years. The parent is an important partner, in close communication with both the child and the tutor. Students develop their academic and leadership skills further by participating in the program's Youth Leadership Group and special workshops in study skills, test preparation, and career planning.
Giving something back to the community:
Volunteers are always in need to provide individual tutoring in math, reading, and homework assistance and group tutoring in home work assistance and reading club.
Tutors are asked to volunteer at least one quarter but are encouraged to commit to one full academic year. Volunteer at least two hours a week, between 3:00-6:00 pm and build a strong and rewarding relationship with a student in need.
